Over the next 4 Saturdays you will be hearing from 4 different graduating Tidewater Cru senior girls! We are so excited for them to share their heart & thoughts on life in college!
Hi Tidewater
Cru Ladies! My name is Corinne Beale and I am a senior at CNU this year. Brooke
asked me to write a quick little blog post to share some thoughts on my college
experience with you all. I could probably write a short novel on this about
things that have been great and mistakes that I have made. However, I am going
to try to keep it brief! I thought I would just share with you three practical
tips that I have learned from experience and hopefully they will challenge and
encourage you:
Keep God first. I know this may sound cliché and
typical, but it is seriously so important. If I have learned anything through
my college experience, it is that keeping God the absolute, number one priority
in your life is the most important thing anyone can do. Make time for Him.
Better yet, rather than trying to squeeze Him in to your schedule, let Him be a
part of all that you do. Be consistent in spending time in the Word and
listening to the Lord. Let all that you do be honoring and glorify to the Lord,
and I can promise you that all of your stress, anxiety, and worry will be
lifted.
Reach out to non-believers. Again, I know this may sound cliché, but this
is something that I wish I had taken more advantage of during my time in
college. While Christian community is so incredibly important, it is equally
important that we reach out to the students, and even professors, on our
campuses that don’t know the joy of having a relationship with the Lord. We are
constantly surrounded by so many people throughout the day, so why not take a
chance and ask someone about their spiritual journey? I know it can be awkward
and uncomfortable, but when we think about all that Christ has done for us,
this is the least we can do to show Him how grateful we are for His love and
sacrifice.
HAVE FUN!! It is so easy to get caught up in
the stress of school, work, and other daily hassles. I can promise you,
however, that before you know it, your four years will be almost gone and you
may wish that you had really taken time to invest in the lives of those around
you. I’m not saying skip class and don’t do your homework, although, I may have
done that a time or two (whoops!), but definitely make time for friends, be
spontaneous, and really enjoy your college experience. This is such a unique
time in your life, so definitely take advantage of the community that you are
surrounded with.
I hope that
in some way, shape or form, this has encouraged you or motivated you to love
others more. Know that I speak from a place of experience. In no way am I an
expert at any of these things, but ultimately, my challenge to you is to let
your life and all that you do be fully captivated by the love of Christ, and
many of these things will come naturally alongside of that. Lastly, I wanted to
share one of my favorite Bible verses with you, hoping that it will encourage
and inspire you more than own my words can:
“But He said
to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in
weakness.’ Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so
that Christ’s power may rest on me.” -2 Corinthians 12:9
