So as you know-it's snowing outside. Richmond all the way to Virginia Beach will be covered in beautiful, white goodness starting now! Campus emails are being sent out with closing announcements(insert praise hands emoji here.) Life will be a bit slower than normal tonight & tomorrow. Slow days are a gift and they usually only come every once in awhile: on sick days or snow days. Also, please know Brian keeps singing throughout the house LOUDLY "Here comes the snow" to the tune of "Here comes the Bride"....I don't know if I can handle 24 hours of this ;) Anyway, all this snow has me thinking about what strategic rest might look like....like how do I not waste this gift of slowness. How can I rest well? I definitely know how to waste time---but do I know how to maximize slowness? Here are some ideas for maximizing slowness that just might leave your heart refreshed after the snow is all gone(&so is the slowness!): 1.Hot tea, opening a good book---and finishing it! 2. Crack open your journal and write down all the things that have been on your heart lately.Write out prayers. Or make a prayer journal. 3. Use these conversation cards from Jennie Allen-- print them, make your roommates coffee, and share stories. 4. FaceTime your people that are far away. 5. Clean your closet or desk area that has been causing you some mild anxiety lately. Your future busy days will thank you. 6.Write a letter to a friend or two--write out a prayer for them in it too--people love prayer &mail :) 7. Sleep! Stay in your pjs all. day. 8. Take your neighbors fresh out of the oven brownies:) 9. Be in the snow, for sure! Sled, Snowman, SnowCream! <----recipe here 10. Listen to Needtobreathe Keep your Eyes Open--acoustic version, repeat. [or any of their acoustic songs. acoustic + snow = rest.]
Just some ideas! What does strategic rest look like for you? Soak up the snow & stay awake! :)
